Information for International Students
BYU Law School welcomes students from around the world to apply for the JD program or for BYU Law’s eight-month (two-semester) LLM program for foreign lawyers.
LSAT/GRE
Applicants to the JD program who have received their Bachelor’s Degree from an international institution, regardless of their nationality, must take the LSAT or GRE unless they qualify for the LSAT Exemption. LLM applicants do not need to take the LSAT or GRE.
Credential Evaluation
BYU Law requires all JD applicants, including international applicants, to use the LSAC Credential Assembly Service.
English Proficiency Requirements
Applicants to the JD and LLM programs are required to submit official IELTS, TOEFL, or English3 scores in order to be considered for admissions.
International JD applicants may be considered for an English proficiency test waiver on a case-by-case basis.
LLM applicants who have obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher from an educational institution in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, or Australia in the last two years are exempt from the English proficiency requirement.
Acceptable English Proficiency Tests
See BYU’s Office of Graduate Studies requirements.
Student Visas
BYU’s Office of Graduate Studies will work with admitted international students in obtaining an I-20.
