Academic Development

Academic Development provides resources and information to help students succeed in their law school journey. From the summer before starting classes to the last semester of law school, programs and people are in place to support every student. Explore the dropdowns below for more information.

Prelaw Summer Training Sessions for All Incoming Students

+

Law school is a unique and challenging academic experience different from what most students have ever experienced before.  To help students feel confident and prepared to fully engage starting on the first day of their legal education, we offer admitted students a series of one-hour summer workshops.  Summer sessions are offered both in-person and virtually, so all can participate regardless of their location during the summer.  During these workshops, incoming students will learn the critical skills needed to be successful in law school including how to prepare for class, what to expect during class, and best study practices after class.  Students will be introduced to the many professional opportunities available for those with a law degree so they can begin thinking about and forming their professional identity.  Wellness concepts will be presented to ensure that our students are prepared mentally, emotionally, and physically for the rigorous study of law.

1L Student Advisor Program

+

Each incoming student will also be placed in a yPod—a small group of fellow first-year students mentored by one of our distinguished full-time faculty members and a Student Advisor.  Student Advisors are second and third-year law students selected by the Director of Academic Advisement & Development for their academic excellence in law school, professional experiences, interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to serving others.  Student Advisors will act as mentors and guides during students’ first-year, providing encouragement, advice, and individualized academic support.
