Richard Wilkins
Richard Wilkins graduated in 1979 from the J. Reuben Clark Law School and was the first of the law school’s alumni to join the faculty. In 1984 he began teaching civil procedure, constitutional law and federal courts. Prior to joining BYU faculty, he was an assistant to the solicitor general of the United States in the 1980s. He also drafted legislation regulating abortion passed by the Utah legislature in the early 1990s. He served as the director of the World Family Policy Center at BYU and in 1996 presented a paper, “The Impact of U.N. Conference Declarations on International and Domestic Law,” in Istanbul at an event sponsored by the United Families International. At the conference, he defended traditional family values as the foundation for sustainable national and international communities. Richard died November 26, 2012.
