Faculty Profile

Mary Anne Quinn Wood and her husband, Stephen Wood, were both hired as BYU Law professors in 1976. They were the first spouses to teach at BYU Law School, and she was the first woman and mother to be hired as a law professor at the law school, where she filled various roles during her time there.

Wood earned her Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University in 1966, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Utah. She later graduated from George Washington University’s National Law Center in 1976 at the top of her class.

From 1981 to 1982, Wood served as a White House Fellow with Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger, during which time she earned the Secretary of Defense Outstanding Public Service Medal. In addition to practicing law, Wood co-founded the law firm Wood, Quinn, & Crapo in 1990. Her areas of expertise include litigation, appellate practice, bankruptcy law, employment law, and labor law.

Alongside her legal and academic work, she has been a member of the Utah Bar, Colorado Bar, and the American Law Institute. She has also contributed her expertise as a member of the Utah Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Rules of Civil Procedure and served on the Board of Directors for Beneficial Life Insurance Company.
