On January 20, BYU Law welcomed back alumni leaders to discuss engagement, outreach, and development for the BYU Law Alumni Chapter. The Law Alumni Chapter’s leadership is comprised of the Presidency, Board Members (who oversee Board Committees), and the Class Officers from each graduation year. Together, they envision and implement ways to engage and support BYU Law’s growing network of nearly 7,000 alumni around the world.

This year, Alumni Board President Richard Salgado (Class of 2006) and the Board welcomed in several new members:
Jorge Gavilanes (Class of 2014) - President-Elect
Kade Allred (Class of 2022) - Executive Secretary
Amy Smedley (Class of 2001) - Class Presidents Committee
David Wardle (Class of 2002) - Communications Committee
Jessica Everett-Garcia (Class of 1994) - Events Committee
James Bennin (Class of 2007) - Leadership & Inclusion Committee

Special Thanks for Alumni Leaders Completing Their Terms
Former Alumni President Amy Larsen (Class of 2004) has completed her term on the Board and in the Presidency, and we express sincere gratitude for her energetic and inspiring leadership over the past eight years.
Also honored at the Council Meetings were Gary Christensen (Class of 1988), Adam Balinski (2016), and Kate Sookhoo (2002), who were completing two-year terms on the Board, and MJ Townsend (2021) who served a one-year term as secretary of the Executive Committee.
Law is a Leadership Degree: Leaders Needed
If you are willing to give 2-3 hours a month, BYU Law needs you. There are still leadership roles at the Class level that need to be filled. Please take a moment to ensure that your Class is fully staffed (president, giving coordinator, and class reporter) by emailing us at externalrelations@law.byu.edu. Duties include communication and upkeep of contact information for members of your class, regional event coordination, service activities, and reunion planning.
Click here or email External Relations to find out more about serving as a Class President or Class Officer. Additionally, if you are willing to serve on the Alumni Council Board or Board Committee, please let us know.
