As part of a series of events celebrating Black History Month, Darius Gray came to BYU Law on February 11, 2016 to speak with law students.
Darius Gray joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1964, and attended BYU from 1965-1966. He was one of two African Americans at BYU during that time. Since then, he has served as a promoter of equality and is the founder of the LDS Church's Genesis Group.
Gray shared a quote from President Gordon B. Hinckley that states, “We rejoiced in the 1978 revelation in the temple. There was no doubt in my mind or those of my associates that what was revealed was the will of God. I have often spoken of the diversity among us and taught that each of us is a son or daughter of God.”
Gray will be celebrating 52 years as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in September. Gray closed with another quote from President Hinckley saying, "There is no basis for racial hatred among the priesthood. If you have such feelings, go before the Lord and ask for forgiveness."
