The Jail Outreach event will be hosted March 10, 2016, from 11 a.m. to noon. Participants will report on the Court Watch program, discuss upcoming plans to collaborate with members of the BYU Law's mediation clinic, and announce new officers for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Jail Outreach is a club dedicated to connecting law students with the youth residents at the Slate Canyon Juvenile Detention Center. The club runs a Court Watch program where law students attend weekly detention hearings to ensure that the residents are receiving fair and adequate hearings. Among other things, the students observe and report on which residents are speaking to the judge and utilizing the tools they've learned from Professor Dominguez's Community Lawyering students.
