Academies Application
Deadlines and Requirements
Applications for 1L students open on Monday, January 5, and will be due on Monday, February 2. Academy placements will be announced Monday, March 2.
Applications will be e-mailed to your law school account and can also be accessed using the link below. Your application needs to include your fall semester grades, so you will not be able to submit it until after those grades are released.
Students participating in an Academy must enroll in the one-credit hour course Law 552 (1L Academies). Because Law 552 is a required course and each Academy is built around group work and specific enrollment numbers, all students who are selected for an Academy must attend that Academy.
Dates and Cost
BYU Law pays for nearly the entire cost of the Academies Program, including training, travel, and lodging for all selected students.
1L Academies will take place between Friday, April 24, and Saturday, May 2, 2026. However, Academy length, format, and preparation requirements differ depending on subject matter; students selected for a 2026 Academy will receive additional Academy-specific schedule details after they receive their Academy placements.
Most Academies will travel to their destination cities on Saturday, April 25, to allow participants to attend church in their host cities and learn more about life in those markets.
Most other Academies will run from Saturday, April 25, to Wednesday, April 29.
