John Fowles
John Fowles is the chief compliance officer of a multinational publicly-traded company headquartered in Provo, Utah, with corporate offices in twenty-three countries. Prior to his appointment as chief compliance officer, John worked as in-house counsel focusing on global anti-corruption and corporate compliance, internal investigations, and general corporate matters including mergers and acquisitions and regulatory audits.
Before going in house, John practiced law first as a commercial litigation attorney at a large regional law firm’s office in Salt Lake City and then as a transactional lawyer at a leading international law firm in London, England. In London, John’s practice focused on international capital markets transactions, international mergers and acquisitions, and other corporate matters, acting primarily for issuers and underwriters in SEC-registered, Rule 144A and other unregistered debt and equity offerings, and specializing in advising international credit institutions and investment banks on structured notes and derivative transactions and European corporations on a variety of matters relating to SEC reporting and US corporate governance obligations.
John also completed federal judicial clerkships in both the US District Court for the District of Utah and on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
John is a graduate of BYU Law School and the University of Oxford and earned his BA at Brigham Young University double majoring in German and European Studies.
As an adjunct faculty member, John teaches a course on corruption.
